When the days are short and you’re aching to be kissed by the sun, it’s totally normal to fall into a bit of a seasonal slump. A daily dose of CBD may reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. It might also help relieve symptoms from depression. During the winter, we’re extra diligent about taking CBD oil every morning.
The colder months can take a toll on your mood, physical state and overall quality of life. We’re sharing some of our favorite tips to help combat the winter blues. Here’s to a happier, healthier you this season!
Hydration is Key
Water rules all. A study by the Human Performance Laboratory at the University of Connecticut found that even slight dehydration could adversely impact energy levels, mood, and cognitive function. By the time you start feeling thirsty, your cells have already begun to perform below their capabilities. The power of hydration should not be underestimated. Remember, adults should drink two liters of water per day. Rosebud CBD founder, Alexis Rosenbaum loves these environmentally friendly rubber glass mason jar sip caps. Super cute and they’re easy to keep by your side – reminding you to hydrate throughout the day!
Getting in your daily exercise is essential. Even just thirty minutes a day can help your body release essential “feel-good” compounds such as endorphins and serotonin. This year, Alexis resolved to push back her early morning meetings in the name of self-care. “I start slipping when I fall out of my routines. Since I feel my best after sorting through my emotions on a yoga mat, or during an intense session of Crossfit, I decided to re-establish exercise a priority this year. Plus, when I get back from the gym, that runner’s high helps guide me through an intense day of calls, meetings, packaging, and shipping.”
All the Vitamin D
These freezing months make it challenging to leave the house, but a little sunshine and fresh air can work wonders. Make it a priority to get outside, especially on a sunny day. If you work from home, head to a local coffee shop for a change of scenery. Even better if you can walk there, a little movement can do you a lot of good. Set realistic goals to get outside – even if it’s just for a grocery trip or to run a few quick errands.
According to Psychology Today, “…some researchers have targeted an increase in vitamin D as the mechanism for improved mood in people with SAD. Of note, vitamin D is produced in our skin after exposure to sunlight, and there are plenty of vitamin D receptors in the brain.” If you live somewhere extra dreary, consider adding a Vitamin D supplement to your routine. A lack of this essential vitamin can mean getting sick more often, fatigue, and even depression.
If you think you have a Vitamin D deficiency, speak with your doctor about higher doses of Vitamin D.
Plants Have Power
Here at Rosebud, we really trust the green… and no, we’re not just talking about cannabis. Plants, in general, can have a powerful impact on humans. Studies show that having greenery around can improve one’s mood, reduce stress and anxiety and enhance cognitive function. Certain plants (looking at you leafy greens) can also purify the air – an added bonus in the cold months when we rarely open our windows.
