Attaining and maintaining a mild high is like achieving the perfect hover state. It’s the ability to feel weightless and elevated without sending the brain off on a mental tangent. Sometimes we all just want to float through our day with softer edges, sweeter sounds, and a lighthearted mindset. With so many different types of products and consumption methods to choose from, using cannabis to consistently achieve that desired state can be a challenge. To achieve a mild high it’s important to follow a few simple steps to ensure you don’t tip yourself over the edge into a sea of blissful distraction or mindless tranquility, although, there’s certainly a time and a place for that! Here is an easy guide to dosing for a mild high:
Start With a Blank Canvas
Mixing different intoxicating substances like cannabis and caffeine or cannabis and alcohol can skew the experienced effect and mask one’s ability to recognize just how sober or buzzed they really are. If you’re looking to achieve a mild high, we recommend sticking with just cannabis for your first few sessions until you have identified your ideal dosing threshold. Before you dose yourself, it’s also a good idea to do a quick self-audit. Scan your body, how do you feel? Are you tired or alert? Comfortable or experiencing pain? Focused or distracted? Now that you’ve tuned into yourself a bit deeper, let’s get elevated.
Build your Buzz
In the case of a mild high, less is more. Our goal isn’t to get stoned, but rather slightly elevated while still being able to function. Start with half, or even 1/4th the dose you typically take and let that work it’s magic. Remember, all forms of cannabis consumption have different onset times, ranging from almost immediate (most smokables and vapes) to as long as 2 hours (most edibles). Once you’ve identified your prefered consumption method, give it plenty of time to kick in before you evaluate whether you want a more potent buzz. Once you start to feel the onset of the THC, if you aren’t quite at the level you want, you can puff on a little flower or a vape to build upon your buzz in real time (just remember to go easy here).
My Dosing Guide:
- Eat ~2mg infused chocolate bar, wait 1-2 hours to start feeling the effects.
- Level-up: take a microhit of low potency 1:1 cannabis flower [recommended strains: Critical Mass, Cannatonic, Pennywise] or a few puffs of CBD rich hemp [recommended strains: Cherry Wine, Suver Haze, Lifter]. If you don’t have a 1:1 strain on hand, you can also roll your weed into a spliff with an herbal smoking blend to cut the potency. Since smoking flower has an almost immediate onset time, it’s a great way to build upon your edible induced buzz. Just remember to go slow.
Quit While You’re Ahead
Once you start to feel the THC kick in, do another quick self-audit and see how you feel. Stretch your legs and drink a glass of water. How do you feel? Probably pretty chill right? Even though we outlined ways to gently build upon your buzz, try to resist the urge to consume any more because it’s pretty easy to get too stoned, and that’s not the experience we’re after right now.
If you find that you accidentally got too high, fear not. To find your balance again drink a glass of lemon water, nibble on some CBD chocolate, and go for a light walk. Even a splash of cold water to your face can help you snap back into focus.
Every person has a different tolerance to THC, so be mindful when taking the same dose as somebody else. At the end of the day, you’re going to have the best experience when you are tuned into your body and knowledgeable about the products you’re using. The golden rule for a pleasant mild high is to simply start with a low-dose and go slow.
