Rosebud’s February Donation to Brooklyn Defender Service

This past February, to commemorate Black History Month we partnered with social justice advocate, Kassia Graham to spotlight women of color making waves in the cannabis industry.

We interviewed trailblazers in media, healthcare, hospitality, and advocacy, including Sandra Guynes: Registered Cannabis Nurse, Solonje Burnett: Cannavist & Co-Founder of Humble Bloom, Lyneisha Watson: Cannabis Journalist, and Maverick Kelly: Cannabis Chef.

With Kassia’s help, we took things one step further and set our sights on an organization making a difference: Brooklyn Defender Services, whose mission is to provide high quality legal representation and related services to people who cannot afford to retain an attorney.

Brooklyn Defender Services is a public defender organization that represents nearly 35,000 people each year who do not have the resources to afford legal representation—their staff consists of specialized attorneys, social workers, investigators, paralegals and administrative staff who are experts in their respective fields.

To support the incredible work that BDS provides to the community, we set out to donate 10% of total sales from the entire month of February, amounting to a $5,000 donation. It is our privilege to work alongside conscious creatives like Kassia Graham to amplify the voices and work of women of color within the cannabis space. As a brand in this rapidly growing industry, it’s our obligation to use our platform in meaningful ways and ensure that there is a seat for everyone at the table.

Kat Frey is a Brooklyn based writer, who originally hails from The Wing. Kat has historically worked with women-lead brands, and her writing spans from culture and cannabis, to overall health and wellness. When she’s not busy writing for Rosebud CBD, she spends her time thumbing through The Cut, Man Repeller, and T Magazine, or listening to Las Culturistas. Her favorite form of self care is adding our 350mg tincture to homemade face and hair masks!
